Meeting of Poland’s and Sri Lanka’s foreign ministers

Today in Warsaw, Minister Radosław Sikorski met with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Ali Sabry. Bilateral issues and regional safety were the main topics of conversation.

Minister Radoslaw Sikorski met with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabry

The talks were aimed at reinvigorating political and economic relations. Particular emphasis was placed on trade, new areas of cooperation, including the opportunities of extending cooperation between Polish and Sri Lankan sea ports, as well as on the development of the legal and treaty base. The meeting confirmed the sides’ willingness to further exploit the potential of bilateral cooperation.

 

The discussion also covered the challenges to the security situation in Europe and the Indian Ocean region.

Poland and Sri Lanka share longstanding and friendly relations based on mutual respect. Minister Ali Sabry is the first Sri Lankan foreign minister to visit Poland after 1989. The meeting constitutes an important step towards the enhancement of bilateral contacts.
