21.03.2019

“The new Polish Television channel will help the Poles living in Lithuania to keep their national identity and support their activities,” said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk at the official signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Polish Television on cooperation in creating and promoting the TVP Wilno television channel.

The cooperation is the result of the long-standing cooperation between the MFA and TVP S.A. on preparing the offer of the TVP Polonia channel and programmes in Polish and other languages addressed to viewers abroad. Launched under the signed document, the TVP Wilno channel is addressed to the viewers from the Vilnius region. It will complement the widely available television offering and will help to maintain the identity and foster the activity of the Polish minority in Lithuania.

“The matters of the Polish community and Poles living abroad are of fundamental importance to the current Polish government and are among its priorities,” noted the deputy chief of Polish diplomacy. “Our compatriots living in the Vilnius region are our important partner and help to promote Polish culture and memory,” he added.

The TVP Wilno channel’s purpose is to integrate the Polish community and foster bilateral relations. The channel’s team will include young journalists from the Polish community in Lithuania. TVP Wilno is set to start broadcasting in early May 2019.

In its early stage, the project will start as a daily 15-minute news service broadcast in Polish for local viewers and two weekly current affairs commentary programmes. The programmes will be broadcast on the TVP Polonia channel, with the TVP Wilno’s terrestrial signal replacing TVP Polonia’s satellite signal.
