MFA statement on another act of borderization in Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia
16.08.2019
The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its concern over the resumption, by Russian-backed de facto authorities in Tskhinvali, of the installation of artificial barriers at the village of Gugutiantkari, located near the Administrative Boundary Line of the Georgian territory of South Ossetia/Tskhinvali region.
The process of “borderization”, which has progressed since 2011, severely affects population living in the vicinity of the occupation line. It results in further restrictions of the freedom of movement of people and goods. This another illegal action conducted by de facto authorities of South Ossetia/Tskhinvali region not only aggravates the already horrible humanitarian situation, but also poses serious threat to security and stability on the ground.
The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls upon the Russian Federation to immediately stop its illegal actions against Georgia and to fulfil all of its obligations under the 2008 ceasefire agreement, including: the withdrawal of its forces to pre-conflict positions, the reversal of its recognition of the Georgian regions of South Ossetia/Tskhinvali region and Abkhazia as the independent states and grant unrestricted access for humanitarian assistance to these regions.
