MFA statement on considering a member of staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus a persona non grata
10.03.2021
On 10 March 2021, chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus Aliaksandr Chasnouski was handed a diplomatic note stating that a member of staff of the embassy had been declared persona non grata. The note also obliged the staff to leave the territory of the Republic of Poland by midnight, 12 March.
The decision was made in response to yesterday’s expulsion of a Polish diplomat from the Consulate General in Brest, which we consider to be yet another unfriendly and unjustified action of Belarusian authorities.
We take their similar actions of the past several months to be indicative of their firm intention to freeze contacts with selected countries.
We appeal to the Belarusian side to refrain from provocative gestures, which do not serve the interests of both countries.
