MFA Statement on entry into force of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement
01.03.2021
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland notes with satisfaction the entry into force of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), signed in November 2017 and provisionally applied from June 1, 2018.
The agreement is the basis for the further development of Armenia's relations with the European Union and its member states. It assumes the intensification of political dialogue and the deepening of trade and economic cooperation, including in the areas of transport, energy and the investment climate, as well as support for Armenian civil society. Upon the agreement, Armenia undertook commitment to take steps to modernize the economy and gradually approximate its legislation to the EU acquis.
Poland has consistently supported Armenia's efforts to strengthen its relations with the EU and was among first member states to ratify CEPA on 27/09/2018. Within the implementation of the provisions of the agreement, we see a great opportunity and support for Yerevan on the path of democratic reforms and modernization of the country, which becomes particularly important after the cessation of hostilities in and around Nagorno-Karabakh. The agreement also creates additional opportunities to expand Polish-Armenian bilateral cooperation.
Stable, developing Armenia is an important partner of the European Union in the South Caucasus region, a European country with a centuries-old history and rich culture. It is also an important Eastern Partnership country, without which the implementation of this policy would be incomplete.
