MFA statement
05.04.2022
The news coming from the town of Bucha, which had been liberated by Ukrainian forces, filled us with horror, anger a desire for justice.
Crimes against civilians are absolutely prohibited by international humanitarian law of armed conflict, to which Russia is a party, both the Hague and Geneva Conventions and customary international law.
The images of civilians shot in the back of the head with their hands tied bring to mind comparisons with the darkest Times of Stalinist and Nazi totalitarianism.
We declare that we will do everything to ensure that those responsible for these heinous acts will be brought to justice.
