MFA’s instruments regarding the Polish diaspora policy
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) possesses a specialized set of instruments in the form of a network of approximately 120 diplomatic and consular missions worldwide. Matters concerning the Polish diaspora fall under the responsibility of the Consul of the Republic of Poland, in accordance with the Consular Law Act.
At the MFA headquarters, the Department of Cooperation with Polish Community Abroad is responsible for Polish diaspora issues. It is tasked with shaping, implementing, and coordinating cooperation with the Polish diaspora and Poles abroad. The Department also takes actions to protect the rights of individuals of Polish descent and Polish minorities abroad, oversees the implementation of the Pole’s Card Act, and assists with the repatriation process.
The responsibilities of the Department of Cooperation with Polish Community Abroad also include:
• Supervision of the work of Polish diplomatic missions and consular offices regarding diaspora activities (assessments, defining tasks, ongoing cooperation).
• Planning and controlling the expenditure of MFA funds allocated to support the Polish diaspora and Poles abroad, as provided by the diplomatic missions.
• Organizing competitions for non-governmental organisations' projects concerning Polish diaspora infrastructure.
• Managing social media accounts (Twitter - X and Facebook - Meta) @PolacyŚwiatu.
• Collaboration with TV Polonia and TVP Wilno.
