Michał Kurtyka - Polish candidate for OECD Secretary-General

The Polish government proposed the incumbent Minister of Climate and Environment Michał Kurtyka as a candidate for the position of the Secretary General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
On 27 October 2020, the Permanent Representative of Poland to the OECD Aleksander Surdej officially proposed the Polish candidate for the position of OECD Secretary-General. On the same day, during a videoconference held by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the candidate presented his vision of the Organisation’s development before Polish ambassadors accredited to OECD member states. The videoconference was chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński.
The incumbent Secretary-General of the OECD, a Mexican Jose Angel Gurría will conclude his term of office in June 2021. His successor is to be elected by March 2021.
The OECD is an international economic organisation seated in Paris, established in 1961. Poland has been a member since 1996. The OECD’s mission is to search for and promote best political and economic solutions to improve the quality of life of people across the world. The Organisation also runs research and conceptual works focusing on key social and economic issues.
