Minister Jacek Czaputowicz meets EU ambassadors

10.02.2020

“Poland welcomes the choice of priority areas by the Croatian presidency of the EU Council. We will actively support the implementation of goals set by our Croatian friends,” said Minister Jacek Czaputowicz at a meeting with EU ambassadors accredited to Poland.

Homs meeting

The meeting with EU heads of missions accredited to Poland was held at the invitation of Croatia’s ambassador Tomislav Vidošević, in connection with Croatia’s presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2020. The presidency’s activities will focus on four priorities: a Europe that develops, a Europe that connects, a Europe that protects, and an influential Europe.

The head of Polish MFA stressed that Poland and Croatia have a common view about prospects for the European integration of the Western Balkans. “Poland endorses the presidency’s ambitious plans in this area. The enlargement policy remains undoubtedly one of EU activities that considerably contribute to stability and prosperity in Europe,” Minister Czaputowicz added.

Other topics discussed during the meeting included the EU new institutional cycle, negotiations of the Multiannual Financial Framework, EU-UK relations, and the EU’s future. The participants also talked about prospects for the development of the EU single market, particularly with regard to eliminating barriers to business activities, as well as security cooperation and the situation in the EU’s neighbourhood.

At the participants’ request, Minister Czaputowicz also addressed issues related to the current international agenda. These included the Russian Federation’s historical policy, Poland’s involvement in the Warsaw Process, as well as Poland’s membership of the UN Human Rights Council and related initiatives, including freedom of religion.
