Minister Jacek Czaputowicz meets with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo

- Our meeting, held on the day marking the centenary of the Battle of Warsaw won by Poland, has not only a symbolic, but also a practical dimension. It shows that our countries are united by both history, present and future. - Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz said today during his meeting with the chief of US diplomacy.
During their meeting at the Palace on the Isle in the Royal Łazienki Park, the Polish and US top diplomats discussed possibilities to advance cooperation in security and defence, as well as in the economy and energy sector.
Minister Czaputowicz said: - Poland considers a strong transatlantic bond as key for the security of our continent. We particularly value the US political and military involvement in Europe. It is of strategic significance that the US is committed to strengthening NATO deterrence and defence capabilities, also on the eastern flank of the Alliance.
The minister also expressed his satisfaction with the fact that - all the time we are expanding the list of areas where our states cooperate closely. Along with strengthening military ties between Poland and the United States, we are working hard to agree on details of the US contribution to the development of Polish civil nuclear energy sector. We also consolidate our cooperation in implementing safe technological solutions relating to next-generation telecommunication networks.
During the meeting, Minister Jacek Czaputowicz and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo addressed joined projects, such as the US involvement in the Three Seas Initiative, the Warsaw Process, and cooperation in the International Religious Freedom Alliance. In Autumn this year, Warsaw will host the International Conference on Freedom of Religion or Belief.
Minister Czaputowicz and Secretary of State Pompeo spoke about the current situation following presidential election in Belarus. In the words of the Polish foreign minister, - we are gravely concerned about the pacification of post-election peaceful demonstrations. We call on the Belarusian authorities to establish dialogue with the society and start respecting fundamental human rights. - Minister Czaputowicz went on to say that Poland remains a steadfast supporter of sovereignty and independence of Belarus, our important neighbour. He expressed his hope that the Belarusian people will find their own way to solve the present situation in a peaceful manner.
Other topics included issues related to global security with a particular focus on the conflict in Ukraine and the current state of relations with Russia and China.
At the invitation of Polish President Andrzej Duda, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo took part in a ceremony to mark the Centenary of the Battle of Warsaw. Minister Jacek Czaputowicz accompanied the Polish President and Prime Minister during their talks with Mike Pompeo.
