Minister of Foreign Affairs meets with US Senate delegation
12.01.2024
Poland's top diplomat Radosław Sikorski received today US senators Christopher Coons and Michael Rounds at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Christopher Coons, a Democratic senator from Delaware, and Michael Rounds, a Republican senator from South Dakota, started their visit to Europe by meeting with Minister Radosław Sikorski. The head of Polish diplomacy set out the priorities of the government's foreign policy, underlining that the United States is a strategic partner for Poland, which will remain America's loyal, solid and dedicated ally. Minister Sikorski assured that Warsaw is also an important, strong link in the NATO chain and announced that one of priorities for next-year's Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union will be to strengthen transatlantic relations.
The talks also covered the current developments in Russia's war against Ukraine and a broader context of European security. The officials agreed that it is necessary to continue the comprehensive support for Poland’s eastern neighbour. Radosław Sikorski thanked the senators for the support provided to Kyiv so far by the US Congress and called for a swift decision on adopting the next funding package. In this context, he considered that the consequences of the Russian conquest of Ukraine would be catastrophic and the cost of preventing Putin's attack would be much higher than the cost of supporting Kyiv at present.
