While discussing Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, Minister Radosław Sikorski stressed that Europe must strengthen its support for Ukraine and, at the same time, use sanctions to further weaken the aggressor. He also called for the seizure of Russia’s Central Bank’s immobilised assets and their transfer to support Ukraine militarily in the first place, so as to enable its continued defence against Russian attacks.

Regarding the EU–US relations, Minister Sikorski noted that the tightening of transatlantic cooperation in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding of both parties’ interests will be a priority for the Polish Presidency of the EU Council. He also talked about the need for the EU to coordinate its strategic communication with the US. According to the top Polish diplomat, Europe needs to step up its defence spending to increase responsibility for its own security and that of its immediate neighbourhood.
