Minister Radosław Sikorski holds a number of phone talks with his counterparts

On Wednesday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski talked with his counterparts from Lithuania, Germany, Ukraine, Moldova, and Czechia about support for Ukraine in the context of Russia’s aggression, about bilateral relations, and about cooperation opportunities within the European Union and the Visegrad Group. The conversations started with congratulations on Minister Sikorski’s reappointment as the head of Polish diplomacy.

When talking with Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, Radosław Sikorski referred to his first visit to Vilnius, which he had made in 2007 as the head of the Polish MFA and which was had also been his first foreign trip in his capacity as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.

During his talk with Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, the Polish top diplomat discussed cooperation prospects within the Weimar Triangle.

Minister Sikorski assured his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba that our two nations will always stand side by side in their fight for freedom. The head of Polish diplomacy also supported Ukraine’s European aspirations; in this context he hoped for the European Council’s positive decision to launch accession negotiations.

Also during his talk with Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicolae Popescu, Minister Radosław Sikorski unequivocally supported Moldova’s steps on the path towards the European Union. He also hoped it will be reflected in the EU leaders’ decision to launch accession negotiations. The head of the Polish MFA took the opportunity to assure his interlocutor that the dynamic development of bilateral relations will be maintained.

The future of the Visegrad Group, currently presided over by Czechia, was on the agenda of Minister Sikorski’s conversation with his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavský. Both ministers also spoke about prospective aid for Ukraine.

Minister Sikorski was congratulated on his appointment by, among others: High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, Foreign Minister of Estonia, Margus Tsahkna, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Tobias Billström, External Affairs Minister of India, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and Foreign Minister of Bulgaria, Mariya Gabriel, as well as Ukraine’s former President Petro Poroshenko and Head of the National Anti-Crisis Management and former Ambassador of Belarus to Poland Pavel Latushka.
