Helping Ukraine, the upcoming visit of President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk, sanctions against Russia and enhancing military cooperation were the main focus of Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski’s meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
Secretary Blinken thanked Poland for all it has done for Ukraine. He appreciated Poland becoming a European leader and a role model for other countries. He also said that Polish-American relations had never been better and congratulated Minister Sikorski on his speech at the UN Security Council, stressing that Russian disinformation must be countered. For the Polish side, Minister Sikorski outlined the current situation of Ukraine and highlighted the need for immediate military assistance. He also recalled that European countries have spent more on aid to Ukraine than the US, but admitted they are not in a position to quickly supply the necessary armaments. Speaking about the upcoming visit of Polish president and prime minister to Washington, the top Polish diplomat noted that political cohabitation can sometimes be difficult, but the president and the government fully agree on defence and foreign affairs. Anthony Blinken and Radosław Sikorski appreciated the decision of the Hungarian parliament to ratify Sweden’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance. Secretary Blinken pointed out that two years after the Russian invasion both the European Union and NATO have become stronger.
