Minister Radosław Sikorski visits Latvia
27.03.2024
On 27 March, the head of Polish diplomacy met with Latvia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš and President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
The talks centred around security matters, helping Ukraine, and preparations for the NATO summit in Washington, D.C. The foreign ministers also discussed sanctions, cooperation on defending the eastern borders against hybrid threats posed by Russia and Belarus, and Ukraine’s prospects for accession to the European Union and NATO.
The talks with Latvian authorities emphasised that the intensity of dialogue between Poland and Latvia translates as well into flourishing cooperation in the areas of infrastructure, energy, and economy. The whole region’s security improves owing to Rail Baltica projects or increased synchronisation of local electrical grids with the rest of continental Europe.
Also, Poland’s continued military presence in Latvia was confirmed during the visit.
