In the context of the migration pressure from Belarus, Minister Rau pointed to Tashkent’s position. The country not only supported Poland by deciding on 17 November to introduce restrictions on flights from Uzbekistan to Belarus for citizens of certain countries, but additionally has never allowed Afghan nationals to be used by Alexander Lukashenko’s regime for hybrid attacks against the Polish border. This attitude has helped to reduce the number of migrants smuggled to the EU’s external border.
