Minister Rau takes part in high-level week opening 76th UN General Assembly session

On 20-23 September, Minister Zbigniew Rau visited New York to participate in the high-level week that opened the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly. This year’s debate focused on post-pandemic economic recovery as well as issues related to human rights observance, climate, natural resources, and facilitation of the UN functioning.

The agenda of Minister Zbigniew Rau’s visit to New York included numerous bilateral meetings, the EU foreign ministers’ meeting with the participation of High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, a Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies as well as a meeting with the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba. Moreover, Minister Rau accompanied President of Poland Andrzej Duda during the 76th UNGA General Debate and selected meetings of the president.

During a number of bilateral meetings, the head of Polish diplomacy emphasised the importance of ensuring stability and predictability in international relations. The foreign minister expressed his concern over undermining the generally accepted norms and mutual commitments provided under international law. Minister Rau also took the opportunity of his visit to highlight the importance that Poland attaches to the observance of human rights.
