They both strongly condemned Russia’s attack as unjustified and a flagrant violation of international law and OSCE commitments. Minister Rau and Secretary Blinken emphasised the importance of transatlantic unity at this difficult time. They pledged continued coordination of next steps. Also discussed were issues related to providing help to potential refugees from Ukraine. Minister Rau expressed Poland’s strong support for more robust political and financial sanctions in order to prevent the conflict from escalating and to urge Russia to cease its military action against Ukraine.
