Minister Zbigniew Rau and President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer talk about humanitarian aid in conflict-affected regions
19.01.2022
As the current Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Minister Zbigniew Rau highlighted the importance Poland will attach to supporting populations that suffer the consequences of crises and armed conflicts on a daily basis.
One of the oldest-operating humanitarian organisations in the world, the International Committee of the Red Cross has outstanding achievements to its credit and expertise in delivering aid. “Poland considers the ICRC as one of its key partners in providing humanitarian aid, particularly in areas to which access is heavily restricted,” stressed Minister Rau. President Maurer thanked Poland for its long-standing excellent cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross and consistent financial support for the ICRC’s actions in conflict zones.
In 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and the International Committee of the Red Cross signed a cooperation agreement, which is a great example of Poland building solid and prestigious partnerships as regards the protection of civilian populations in armed conflicts, providing humanitarian aid, and promoting compliance with the standards of international humanitarian law.
