14.12.2020
"European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean are natural allies in the defence of multilateralism. We share the same vision when it comes to shaping global issues", said minister Zbigniew Rau in his address during the ministerial meeting of the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean, which was held via video conference.
In his speech, the head of Polish diplomacy noted that energy and climate transition have become an important driver for economic recovery. Referring to the revised Poland's Energy Policy until 2040, the Minister underlined that Poland is determined to make the energy transition socially acceptable by ensuring fair conditions for the transformation in the regions most exposed to burdens.
Our GreenEvo project – Green Technology Accelerator – reflects Poland’s active involvement in the protection of the environment globally. "We support the economy with innovative, green technologies. I encourage all partners in Latin America and the Caribbean region to cooperate with us on this project", said minister Rau.
He pointed out that Poland focuses on innovative solutions, and is already the third biggest producer of hydrogen in Europe and the fifth in the world. Minister Rau stressed also that Poland is currently the main producer of batteries for electric vehicles. He assured that we are ready to share our experiences in the development of electromobility and the implementation of environmentally friendly technologies in transport and logistics. The Minister also reminded that in 2018 we hosted the COP24 (Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) in Katowice and all the topics highlighted there - just transition, electromobility and forests - have been widely recognized as key areas of action to achieve climate neutrality.
The main objective of the two-day ministerial meeting, chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, is to resume high-level political dialogue between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean. Ministers have the opportunity to discuss a shared vision of cooperation between the two regions in selected areas of green growth and digital transformation and counteracting the negative effects of a pandemic.
