Minister Zbigniew Rau concludes his visit to Washington, D.C.
29.09.2022
On 23-29 September 2022, Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau visited Washington. His itinerary included a series of meetings with representatives of US authorities.
The agenda of the visit to Washington fitted in with the very intensive Polish-American dialogue in recent years. This was evidenced by Minister Rau’s meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, Senators Cynthia Jeanne Shaheen and Roger Wicker, and Representatives Marcy Kaptur and Chris Smith of the Congressional Poland Caucus and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives.
The head of the Polish MFA also took part in a panel discussion at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Speaking to leading strategists and experts in international politics, he outlined Poland’s assessment of the situation in Ukraine and security challenges in Central and Eastern Europe, also in the context of adapting the North Atlantic Alliance to threats posed by Russia. Minister Rau also addressed the issue of energy security, stressing in this context the importance of the Baltic Pipe and Poland’s active use of renewable energy sources.
As part of dialogue with leading US think-tanks, the top Polish diplomat met with President and CEO of the Atlantic Council Frederick Kempe, and with President of the German Marshall Fund Heather A. Conley.
While in the USA, Foreign Minister Rau also exchanged views with a representative of the previous administration – John Bolton, former US National Security Advisor to the US President.
The trip to the US provided an opportunity to visit the recently opened Victims of Communism Museum in Washington and hold a meeting with representatives of the Polish community in the US.
