09.03.2021
On 9 March, Minister Zbigniew Rau held a phone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi.
The diplomats discussed the recent talks between the President of the Republic of Poland and the President of the People's Republic of China that took place on 1 March, and the 17+1 summit, held on 9 February, that brought together the leaders of Central and Eastern European countries and China. The ministers agreed that the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic requires global efforts and overcoming political differences. Minister Rau welcomed his Chinese counterpart’s declaration to make Chinese vaccines a global public good. The officials stressed that containing the pandemic is a precondition of bringing back normality to societies and restoring conditions for economies to develop. The Polish side appreciates cooperation with Chinese partners in terms of exchanging epidemiological experiences as well as the openness to obtaining necessary medical supplies from China.
The ministers also declared their governments’ determination to constructively develop economic and trade relations with the use of bilateral and multilateral mechanisms.
Due to the fact that Poland and China are currently members of the Human Rights Council, the ministers openly exchanged their opinions on issues discussed at this forum. Minister Rau stressed that Poland fully respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People’s Republic of China. Within the Council, Poland gives priority to ensuring the freedom of religion or belief, as well as the freedom of expression and assembly.
The calendar of further Polish-Chinese high-level contacts will be adapted to the pandemic-related conditions.
