24.11.2020
“I am pleased that our countries enjoy increasingly close relations which we have also been developing as allies within NATO since March 2020,” said Minister Zbigniew Rau during a phone conversation with the head of diplomacy of North Macedonia Bujar Osmani.
Minister Rau stressed excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, which was reflected, inter alia, by the President of North Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski’s official visit to Poland in February 2020. An important element of these relations is also the cooperation between the Polish Border Guard and North Macedonian services in terms of preventing illegal migration.
The chief of Polish diplomacy praised the government of North Macedonia for pursuing policy aimed at integration with the European Union and development of transatlantic relations. He expressed his hope that it would be possible to convene the first intergovernmental conference this year and thus to effectively launch negotiations for North Macedonia’s accession to the EU. Recalling the video conference of the Berlin Process foreign ministers that was held two weeks ago, Minister Rau underlined that Poland stands ready to continue its political support for the EU accession process and to share its experiences with the Western Balkan partners, including North Macedonia.
The two ministers also discussed issues related to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) which Poland will chair in 2022. North Macedonia has submitted its candidature to chair the Organization in 2023.
