Minister Zbigniew Rau holds talks with Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita

19.03.2021

The diplomats discussed the state of bilateral relations, stressing their great potential for further development, particularly in the political and economic dimension. Minister Rau pointed out that Morocco remains one of Poland’s major partners in Africa, as evidenced, among other things, by the constantly growing trade volume, which in 2020 – despite the pandemic – exceeded USD 1 billion for the first time.

The chief of Polish diplomacy praised Morocco’s involvement in international efforts to ensure stability in the North Africa region, including in Libya and the Sahel, and stressed the role of cooperation with Morocco as the EU’s important partner in the region.

The ministers talked about the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and agreed that the vaccination campaign is of key importance. They also expressed hope that a speedy vaccination rollout will soon make it possible to resume regular high-level contacts. In this context, Minister Rau repeated the invitation for his Moroccan counterpart to pay a visit to Warsaw, as the visit, initially scheduled for 2020, had to be postponed due to the pandemic.

Minister Bourita highlighted the great significance Morocco attaches to its relations with Poland as an important member of the European Union and a key trading partner.
