Minister Zbigniew Rau holds telephone call with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi
23.01.2021
The talks between Minister Rau and his Chinese counterpart focused on plans to boost the two countries’ bilateral and multilateral cooperation in 2021. Minister Rau sought a further opening-up of the Chinese market to Polish manufacturers and investors.
The Polish and Chinese heads of diplomacy highlighted the uninterrupted cooperation in 2020, despite the difficulties in maintaining direct contacts, and thanked for the support the two countries provided each other in the first stage of the coronavirus pandemic. Minister Rau pointed out that Poland’s and China’s relatively good economic situation should be used to undertake actions, so far slowed down by the pandemic, aimed at developing the Polish-Chinese comprehensive strategic partnership.
The ministers agreed that the strategic nature of Polish-Chinese relations requires full use of mechanisms that have already been established, such as the Intergovernmental Committee which should convene under the chairmanship of the ministers of foreign affairs in 2021. Minister Rau also expressed his hope that, the epidemic situation permitting, high-level visits would be held as scheduled.
Minister Rau also stressed that pragmatic economic cooperation remains the basis for the Polish-Chinese strategic partnership. He expressed his hopes for the access of Polish goods and services to the Chinese market to be further liberalised, and for opening a new chapter in economic cooperation that would also include the financial and technological sector.
The officials also discussed the upcoming Ninth Summit of the 17+1 Leaders.
