Poland’s chief diplomat received the Belarusian opposition leader and head of the National Anti-Crisis Management on Wednesday, 18 January.

Zbigniew Rau spoke highly of the Belarusian democratic opposition’s activity. He expressed deep concern over the internal situation in Belarus, in particular yet another wave of repressions against the civil society and a growing number of political prisoners, which is currently nearing a thousand.

The minister made a point that the leaders of the Union of Poles in Belarus, Andżelika Borys and Andrzej Poczobut, have been in custody as well for almost a year. He also stressed that an unstable situation persists at the Polish-Belarusian border and a lasting solution to the problem will hardly be an option until the illegal migrants return to their countries of origin.
