Minister Zbigniew Rau meets with Romania’s Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu
23.11.2021
On 23 November 2021, during his visit to Bucharest, Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau met with his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu.
The ministers discussed the ongoing migration crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border and its consequences for the security of the region. In this context, the diplomats talked about coordinating NATO states’ actions on the alliance’s Eastern flank, also in the face of emerging information about a possible Russian intervention in Ukraine. Minister Rau highlighted close relations between Poland and Romania as well as their common perspective on security issues and threats emerging in the eastern neighbourhood. The head of Polish diplomacy stressed that coordinated and consistent pressure from the transatlantic community is necessary to change the policy pursued by the Belarusian authorities as regards both the artificially created crisis at the border with the EU as well as the country’s internal political crisis and harassment of its civil society.
