16.07.2023
On 15-18 July, the head of Polish diplomacy Zbigniew Rau will take part in sessions of the UN Security Council and General Assembly. He will also attend a ministerial event to mark the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
The UN meetings will focus on the developments in Ukraine, with special regard to the problems of the local civilian population, including the issues of human rights violations in areas occupied by Russia and forced deportations of children, as well as the need for the international community to provide Ukraine with ongoing support. An important item on the agenda, in the context of the anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, will be the issue of developing instruments for bringing to account perpetrators of international law violations. Another aspect of Minister Rau’s visit will be a discussion about the priorities of Poland’s three-year term in the UN Economic and Social Council, which will start next year.
While in New York, the top Polish diplomat also plans to meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, President of the international Committee of the Red Cross Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, and representatives of the local Polish community abroad.
