Minister Zbigniew Rau visits Armenia
01.04.2022
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in 2022, paid an official visit to Yerevan. Armenia was the last stop on his three-day tour of the South Caucasus.
While in Yerevan, Minister Rau spoke with President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. Minister Rau emphasised the OSCE’s positive contribution to reform efforts in Armenia. He also offered ideas on how the Organization can consolidate its engagement in Armenia and assist the country in dealing with current challenges.
“Poland’s chairmanship of the Organization strongly supports all initiatives aimed to facilitate dialogue, which is indispensable to deescalate the tensions that persist in the region. We are calling on both Armenia and Azerbaijan to engage in negotiations in good faith in order to come up with a comprehensive solution to all unresolved issues,” emphasised Poland’s top diplomat.
Minister Rau restated what he had said in Azerbaijan the day before about increased engagement of Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office. “We are ready to enhance our involvement, including through the work of the ambassador and his mission,” said Minister Rau. Also, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office welcomed the diplomatic efforts to normalise the relations between Armenia and Turkey, a process that helps improve stability in the region.
