Phone call between Polish and UK foreign ministers

On 30 September 2021, Poland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau held the first telephone conversation with Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Liz Truss to discuss the good state of bilateral relations, similar views on the most important issues on the international agenda, and returning to regular visits after the pandemic.

Minister Rau congratulated Minister Truss on her appointment as the head of British diplomacy, a position she took up on 15 September 2021.

The foreign ministers discussed the state of bilateral relations. They stressed the need to resume high-level contacts. Minister Truss invited Minister Rau to pay a visit to London. Moreover, the diplomats expressed their satisfaction with the course and conclusions of the Polish-British Belvedere Forum, whose fifth edition was held in Warsaw on 15 and 16 September 2021.

Minister Rau stressed that the United Kingdom is Poland’s strategic partner and a trusted ally. He welcomed the fact that the UK’s Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy mentions Poland as a key partner. The chief of Polish diplomacy pointed out that both countries share similar views on a wide range of issues, including security, eastern policy, and historical memory. The two foreign ministers expressed their will to further enhance security cooperation, both bilateral and within NATO. Minister Truss also underscored that the UK is interested in boosting trade and economic relations with Poland.
