Poland continues to help Ukraine in its fight against COVID-19 pandemic
18.08.2021
Over twenty trucks carrying humanitarian aid to fight the COVID-19 pandemic have left Poland today and headed for Ukraine. Another aid transport proves that Poland consistently supports partner countries in need.
“Polish Aid is present around the world, and Poland is a country of solidarity. Solidarity is our national trait, a quality that has always been associated with Poland; it is our legacy. Thanks to solidarity we regained our freedom, and today – again thanks to solidarity – we also help our partners, our friends,” said Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński during the dispatch of transport with material assistance to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Once again Poland has sent transport with material aid to help Ukraine combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately PLN 17 million worth of assistance will reach the country: over 129 tonnes of medical equipment, such as oxygen concentrators, ventilators, and patient monitors, as well as personal protective equipment, including over seven million gloves, over 100,000 packages of disinfectants, antigen tests, overalls, and face masks. Using the supplies of the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves, the assistance is provided at the initiative of the Government Centre for Security, in cooperation with the Solidarity Fund PL and the Polish Post. This support measure is Poland’s response to Ukraine’s plea under the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC NATO).
The dispatch ceremony was attended by Minister Piotr Ćwik, Deputy Chief of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, Michał Kuczmierowski, head of the Government Agency for Strategic Reserves, Paweł Jabłoński, Undersecretary of State at the MFA, and Rafał Dzięciołowski, President of the Supervisory Board of the Solidarity Fund PL.
The humanitarian aid transport is yet another way to support the efforts made by the authorities in Kyiv to mitigate the pandemic-related threat and to improve health conditions among the society. Yesterday, on 17 August 2021, a convoy carrying approximately 650,000 COVID-19 vaccines was dispatched to Ukraine.
