Poland donates 468,000 Covid-19 vaccines to Georgia
10.11.2021
On 4 November, Georgia received the first lot of the 468,000 Covid-19 vaccines donated by Poland. It is a gesture of our solidarity and support for one of Poland’s most important partners in the region, one with whom we share the strategic choices made by society and a wish to belong to the community of European values.
An equitable and safe access to vaccines still remains a crucial factor in the fight against the pandemic, while increasing the vaccinated population worldwide is an indispensable step in beating it. Poland has for months provided support and help by donating vaccines to countries which struggle with their shortages. Georgia is another country we can support in its vaccination programme. So far Poland has donated Covid-19 vaccines to, among others, Egypt, Vietnam, Taiwan, Kenya, Ukraine, Australia, Norway, Kirgizstan, Uzbekistan, Serbia, Montenegro, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Beside its vaccine donation, Poland has been providing development assistance to Georgia since 2004. The current measures support social policies towards people with disabilities, including job activation and improving the infrastructure of facilities for such people. We also support the development of central and regional crisis management systems through building a training system for firefighters and a network of rescue services. Poland is also involved in improving Georgia’s early education system and in supporting the development and economic promotion of its selected regions.
