Poland donates vaccines to Egypt
30.09.2021
On Wednesday, 29 September, over 100,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses against COVID-19 were dispatched from Warsaw to Cairo. The donation of vaccines to Egypt is an expression of solidarity with an important Polish partner in North Africa.
The period of over year and a half of the pandemic has shown that the fight against the COVID-19
is a global challenge. Counteracting the illness and its effects requires worldwide efforts. An equal and safe access to vaccines, which are still not available in many places of the world, is essential in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Equally important is to increase the number of the vaccinated population on a global scale.
At present, Poland has sufficient vaccines for all its citizens willing to get vaccinated, which allows us to share our supplies with our foreign partners in need. Egypt is another country we are supporting in the vaccination programme. By donating the vaccines to Cairo we do not only respond to the need reported. It is also a sign of our close cooperation with Egypt, which remains one of our key partners in the Arab world. Over 70 years of bilateral relations oblige us to enhance them even further, also by supporting Egypt’s authorities in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The gift of vaccines is a symbolic expression of Poland’s assistance and solidarity with the states on the African continent. As part of international solidarity and fight against the pandemic, Poland has already sent medical and personal protective equipment to countries of the region. Dispatched was also the first part of vaccine doses to Kenya. Moreover, the vaccines reached Vietnam, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Australia and Norway. Simultaneously, development assistance projects are being carried out to support the process of mitigating negative effects brought about by the pandemic. It is in the spirit of such solidarity that Poland sent COVID-19 vaccines to Egypt on Wednesday, 29 September.
