Poland donates vaccines to Kenya
10.09.2021
On Friday, 10 September 2021, over 210,000 vaccine doses were dispatched from Warsaw to Nairobi, Kenya. Kenya is the first African country to become a beneficiary of Poland’s vaccine solidarity.
The COVID-19 pandemic knows no boundaries. It does not differentiate between continents, countries or persons it affects. Containing the pandemic requires global efforts and acts of solidarity with countries in need. It is in the spirit of such solidarity that Poland sent COVID-19 vaccines to Kenya on Friday, 10 September.
Kenya is a priority country of the Polish Aid programme and one of Poland’s main partners in the Sub-Saharan region. Thanks to Poland’s support, a number of projects have been funded and implemented, including a training programme for Kenyan firefighters, which has significantly improved the effectiveness of their rescue actions. Sending vaccines to Kenya will help to accelerate the vaccination programme in the country where only about three percent of the adult population have been fully vaccinated and the number of new cases is still growing. Poland’s vaccine donation is also a symbolic gesture of support and solidarity with African countries in which the pandemic has not only led to emergency situations but has also significantly aggravated existing crises and problems.
