Poland’s assistance to Spain

16.04.2020

“In times when all nations grapple with exceptional difficulties, what we need most is solidarity. I believe that mutual support will allow us to endure the hard times and hurry up the end of the COVID-19 crisis," said Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz during a ceremony to donate medical supplies to Spain. The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Poland Francisco Javier Sanabria Valderrama.

Over the last weeks, Spain has experienced a particularly tragic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The information on the numbers of people suffering from and dying of coronavirus in Spain fills our hearts with sadness and profound grief. The efforts made by the country’s authorities as well as Spanish medical services’ determination and dedication to save people’s lives and health deserve the highest praise and partners’ support.

In this emergency situation, as a gesture of friendship and solidarity, the Polish government has offered Spain’s Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Welfare assistance provided by the state-owned Polfa Tarchomin S.A. company. On Thursday, 16 April 2020, a load of 20,000 litres of Trisept Complex disinfectant will be dispatched to Spain by road.

The ceremony was attended by MFA Secretary of State Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, MFA Undersecretary of State Marcin Przydacz, Deputy Minister of State Assets Maciej Małecki, and board member of Polfa Tarchomin Arkadiusz Ziarko on behalf of the company’s CEO Jarosław Król. The Spanish side was represented by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the Republic of Poland Francisco Javier Sanabria Valderrama.

Poland and Spain have enjoyed traditionally cordial relations for many years. The two countries are allies in the EU and NATO. We hope that, once the pandemic is over, bilateral political dialogue with Spain will further intensify, and our economic, cultural, and scientific cooperation will gain new impetus. We believe that our people-to-people contacts will be frequent and mutually enriching.

Poland’s assistance to Spain was also consulted under NATO’s mechanism of the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC).
