Polish-Australian political consultations

On 9 November, Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz held talks with his Australian counterpart, Christopher Langman. The meeting focused on security issues in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
The officials discussed the situation at the Polish-Belarusian border. The deputy head of Polish diplomacy highlighted that the border crisis should be considered in a broader perspective. The escalation of events is brought about intentionally by Lukashenka’s regime who uses people to destabilise the EU’s border. The Polish deputy foreign minister underscored that Poland is determined to protect its own borders and the EU’s external borders.
The consultations also covered bilateral economic and political cooperation. The interlocutors agreed that the upcoming 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Poland and Australia will be an excellent opportunity to summarize the cooperation to date and give it a new impetus. Deputy Secretary Langman underlined that Poland’s initiative to provide Australia with one million COVID-19 vaccines in August 2021 was a proof of the two countries’ closeness in the face of tough global challenges. Warsaw and Canberra have bright economic cooperation prospects. “Australia is Poland’s important trading partner and we are interested in developing collaboration in this field,” said the Polish deputy minister encouraging the Australian side to continue its investments in Poland.
