The major topic of Wednesday’s talks was the security situation in the region and the bilateral relations between Warsaw and Vilnius.

During his meeting with Deputy Ministers Egidijus Meilūnas and Margiris Abukevičius, the deputy head of the Polish MFA underlined a remarkably convergent opinion on the security situation in the region shared by Warsaw and Vilnius. Both sides were concerned to note the continued escalation of tensions in the region through concentration of Russia’s substantial military resources along the borders of Ukraine and in Belarus. Discussed were also hybrid threats at the borders of Poland and Lithuania. Poland’s deputy minister stressed the need to maintain transatlantic unity in the face of hybrid and military threats in the region.

Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz also welcomed the adoption by the Lithuanian side of an act on spelling of names, hoping that it will be a milestone on the way to a full implementation of the Treaty on Friendly Relations and Good Neighbourly Cooperation.
