Polish Foreign Ministry statement on the start of trial over the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 on 17 July 2014

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland welcomes the start of a trial before the judicial authorities of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, scheduled for 9 March 2020, to investigate the real circumstances of, and identify those responsible for, the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 that happened over Ukrainian territory controlled by Russian-backed separatists on 17 July 2014.

We have full confidence in the independence and professionalism of the legal procedures to be applied before a Netherlands court and under Netherlands law. We hope that the forthcoming trial will identify the responsible individuals and establish a detailed picture of this crime, which tragically claimed the lives of almost three hundred people of seventeen nationalities. We call on all states to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation carried out by the Joint Investigation Team, in accordance with UNSC Resolution 2166.
