Polish humanitarian aid for Belarus

05.06.2020

Poland supports its neighbours again in their fight against the COVID-19 epidemic. Today, another humanitarian aid convoy of over 40 trucks sets off to Belarus, carrying in total 300 tonnes of protective equipment and supplies. It is an unprecedented and the largest assistance that Poland has dispatched to the countries affected with the coronavirus pandemic.

Among the aid donors there are Ministry of Health, the Material Reserves Agency, Industrial Development Agency and a renown pharmaceutical company Polfa Tarchomin S.A. The equipment that has been handed over includes ventilators, packs of medicines, masks, disinfectant liquid, tests, aprons and protective overalls.

The aid was delivered to Belarus through a state treasury foundation Solidarity Fund PL. The transport could not be carried out without the involvement of the State Fire Service, Polish Border Guard, or the Police.

“We are sharing what we can share with our friends and neighbours with whom we have much more in common than the border. It is for the personal decision of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki that we can send the largest humanitarian aid in the history of the Third Republic,” said Minister Michał Dworczyk, Head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery. “When the pandemic broke out, we knew that Polish aid must be present where it is needed,” added Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński, Undersecretary at the MFA.

Part of the medical supplies will reach hospitals in Grodno region, and the rest will go to Minsk, from where it will be distributed to all other regions, according to the current needs reported by the Belarusian government. Poles living in Belarus will be also potential beneficiaries of this assistance.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Poland Vladimir Chushev thanked our country for the second round of humanitarian aid. “We, Belarus and Poland, are at the heart of Europe, we are neighbours tied by joint responsibility for the stability of the region. The noble gesture on the part of Poland is a token of the responsibility. On behalf of my country and my own, let me have the honour to express our heartfelt gratitude for yet another aid supply which will depart for Belarus today,” highlighted the ambassador.
