Polish MFA statement on the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh

06.10.2020

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs fully shares the international community’s concern about the continuing hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh which have led to an increasing number of casualties, including civilians.

We offer our sympathies to those affected and their families. We call for the full respect of the international humanitarian law, including the obligation to protect civilians in armed conflict. We are convinced that armed violence will not lead to the conflict’s resolution.

It also threatens the region’s stability. In this context, we support the efforts of the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group and of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office to persuade the parties to immediately cease fighting, de-escalate, and enter into peace negotiations. The OSCE is the appropriate forum for regional dialogue and has instruments to support de-escalation of tensions.
