Polish-Romanian intergovernmental consultations with participation of Minister of Foreign Affairs
03.03.2022
As part of the third round of the Polish-Romanian intergovernmental consultations held in Warsaw on 3 March, Minister Zbigniew Rau met with Romania’s Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu.
The third round of the Polish-Romanian intergovernmental consultations took place at a special and symbolic moment, on the 101st anniversary of the signing of the Convention on Defensive Alliance between the Republic of Poland and the Kingdom of Romania. At the same time, we are now facing the greatest threat to security in the Euro-Atlantic area since World War II, triggered by the illegal and unprovoked armed aggression against Ukraine perpetrated by Russia with the backing of the Belarusian regime.
The ministers discussed the measures taken together with our allies and partners to halt the Russian aggression and to restore peace and security in the Euro-Atlantic area. They underscored firm support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders. They also condemned in the strongest possible terms the Russian aggression against Ukraine. The international community must take every action feasible under international law to bring about immediate and unconditional cessation of hostilities by Russia and withdrawal of its armed forces from across the territory of Ukraine.
During the talks, the ministers confirmed the strategic nature of our relations and the willingness to further enhance them within our alliance as well as in the European, bilateral, and regional dimensions.
On the occasion of the intergovernmental consultations, in the presence of the two countries’ prime ministers, the Polish and the Romanian heads of diplomacy signed the 2022–2026 Action Plan for the Polish-Romanian Strategic Partnership, as well as the Agreement on Diplomatic and Academic Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania.
