22.04.2021

The video conference Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński held on Thursday with his Serbian counterpart Vladimir Maric focused on the practical aspects of economic diplomacy and the activity of the Polish diplomatic service in promoting Polish companies, products and services. The Serbian side asked Poland to share our experiences in this area as Serbia continues the overhaul of its economic diplomacy.

 - Apart from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a number of public institutions are involved in Poland’s economic diplomacy. These include the Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Polish Investment and Trade Agency along with its foreign trade offices, as well as financial and insurance institutions such as BGK and KUKE - said Deputy Minister Jabłoński, pointing out that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs plays a key coordinating role in this context. He also highlighted the importance of self-regulating business organisations and companies, as on the one hand they receive assistance from the MFA, and on the other hand – they support Poland’s diplomacy in identifying the key directions of economic expansion abroad.

Moreover, Deputy Minister Jabłoński shared with his Serbian counterpart information on the role of the MFA’s Department of Economic Cooperation and economic sections at Polish diplomatic missions abroad, as well as on the system of human resources training in Polish diplomacy.

The deputy head of Serbian diplomacy expressed thanks for the information and stressed that it will be very useful in the process of reorganising the Serbian MFA’s economic diplomacy. The two ministers declared their readiness to continue cooperation in this area and welcomed the increase in trade between Poland and Serbia. They also expressed their hope for further development of business and investment contacts.
