Political and economic relations as well as the two countries’ bilateral cooperation in international fora, including in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, were at the top of Thursday’s agenda during a videoconference between Deputy Minister Marcin Przydacz and his Vietnamese counterpart To Anh Dung.
“The key objective after the pandemic-driven crisis will be to further expand our economic relations so our two economies are as soon as possible back on track towards rapid growth,” stressed the deputy foreign minister. He also highlighted the role of Vietnamese people and Poles of Vietnamese origin living in Poland. “We appreciate the role the Vietnamese diaspora plays in Poland’s economy and culture. During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, we could witness many signs of solidarity on the part of the Vietnamese community, which we are thankful for.”
The deputy ministers discussed the state of political and economic relations, along with the prospects of high-level contacts and development of cooperation in trade and investment, defence, education, scholarship and cultural exchange, and others. The top diplomats also reviewed the treaty base and work to expand it as well as fully implemented agreements that had been signed during the Polish presidential visit to Vietnam in 2017. “Despite the pandemic, our countries managed to maintain close bilateral relations based on mutual respect, rich tradition, and excellent person-to-person contacts. Poland and Vietnam can rely on each other in times of difficulties,” pointed out the Polish deputy minister.
The consultations also focused on the two countries’ cooperation at the multilateral level, including the exchange of support for candidacies for international organisations. The deputy minister congratulated his counterpart on Vietnam having been elected non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 term. Also high on the agenda were the epidemiological and economic situation in Asia and Europe as well as ways to counteract the effects of the pandemic.
