Press release following Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński’s meeting with Garry Kasparov
29.08.2022
Deputy Minister Paweł Jabłoński met with Russian opposition politicians: the world-renowned chess champion Garry Kasparov and the former businessman Mikhail Khodorkovsky.
The meeting focused on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the short- and long-term prospects for the internal situation of the Russian Federation, the growing Russian community in Europe, sanctions, and the conditions for issuing EU visas for Russian nationals.
The participants unanimously deplored the aggression, the war crimes, and cruelty of the Russian troops. They agreed that the Russian Federation should immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all of its military forces and all of the military forces in its control from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, including from Crimea and other territories occupied since 2014. They also stressed that Russia must be held accountable for crimes, both by way of reparations for Ukraine and by bringing those responsible for war crimes to justice.
Poland opts for a limited visa issuance for Russian nationals, with the exception of humanitarian visas granted for instance to individuals persecuted by the Kremlin regime. The Polish MFA has put it on its diplomatic agenda to form a coalition to support a corresponding policy in the EU, and to hold a dialogue with various circles within the Russian opposition and the Russian community abroad that object to the aggression against Ukraine and the occupation of its territory.
