Press release on statement by 35 OSCE participating states to invoke the Vienna Mechanism

06.11.2021

In January 2022, Poland will take over the OSCE chairmanship. It is one of the principles of the organisation that the state holding the OSCE chairmanship should exercise restraint in such matters.

This is how Sweden, the current OSCE chair has acted, and so has Poland – due to the fact that the consequences of supporting the above-mentioned statement would coincide with our chairmanship of the organisation.

The above-mentioned decision does not change our position on acts committed by the Republic of Belarus that consist in human rights violations in the country and aggressive activities targeting Belarus’ neighbours – Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia.
