Protecting red cross emblem
24.03.2022
Considering the cases of the red cross emblem being misused by unauthorised entities, it should be noted that the right to use the red cross emblem as a distinctive and protective mark exists only as provided for in international humanitarian law.
The right to use the above emblem applies to components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (composed of national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies — in Poland this is the Polish Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies), and with the consent of the national authorities, it is possible to use this emblem with specific persons and goods.
Any other use of the emblem is also contrary to the Polish Red Cross Act of 16 November 1964 (Journal of Laws 2019, item 179). Within the scope of its jurisdiction, the Polish Red Cross also calls for compliance with the rules on the use of the red cross emblem https://pck.pl/apel-polskiego-czerwonego-krzyza-o-nieuzywanie-znaku-czerwonego-krzyza/.
