Statement on the passing of Madeleine K. Albright

It is with great sadness and regret that we learned about the passing of Madeleine Korbel Albright. On behalf of Poland and all Poles, we would like to extend our condolences and sympathy to her family and the American people as a whole.

Madeleine K. Albright

Madeleine Korbel Albright holds a special place in the shared history of the Republic of Poland and the United States of America. We owe her the return to the transatlantic community, since it was during her time in office as US Secretary of State, on 12 March 1999, that we became a member of the North Atlantic Alliance. The security guarantees under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty prove to be palpably important at this moment of history. We would like to thank Madam Secretary for that.

We have lost a brilliant diplomat, a charismatic leader, a wise person, and Poland’s true friend. She will forever remain in our memories and hearts.
