13.03.2025
Minister Radosław Sikorski met with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár. Today’s consultations covered reinforcement of bilateral ties, prospects for cooperation in Central Europe, security situation in Europe, and transatlantic relations, among other topics.
Both ministers highlighted the significance of bilateral ties, stressing the need to maintain a close Polish–Slovak dialogue, especially in the fields of defence, economy, and cross-border cooperation. The interlocutors talked about the potential to enhance relations between their countries in the light of the letter of intent on developing military and technical exchange signed by the ministers and deputy ministers of defence in February.
As eastern flank countries, Poland and Slovakia feel the impact of challenges and threats linked to the war in Ukraine. The talks in Warsaw gave both sides an opportunity to align their viewpoints on the situation across our eastern borders.
Minister Radosław Sikorski reiterated that security, in a broad context, is the clear priority of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU. Poland’s top diplomat emphasised how important it is for the countries of our region to be firmly grounded in the European Union and NATO, especially in the current geopolitical climate. Polish and Slovak ministers also supported pursuing the EU enlargement policy towards the East and the South.
