Migration, Russian aggression against Ukraine, the economy, and relations with China were the main topics of the two-day European Council meeting attended by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
The European Council began with a meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, with whom views were exchanged on key security issues. Traditionally, the leaders also exchanged views on the EU's current challenges with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. Despite a lengthy discussion on migration, the EU heads of state and government failed to find a compromise on the issue. The talks will continue at future EU summits.
The leaders again strongly condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine and declared unwavering solidarity with Ukraine and its people. They also pledged support for the country's economy, society and armed forces, as well as efforts for future reconstruction.
On economic issues, the leaders referred to previous conclusions on EU industrial policy, the single market and Europe's long-term competitiveness and productivity. In this context, they called for ambitious efforts to complete the single market, particularly in the digital and services sectors.

In addition, the European Council held a strategic discussion on China and discussed preparations for the EU-CELAC summit in July, during which EU leaders will meet with representatives of the regional bloc including Latin American and Caribbean countries.
