Foreign Affairs Council with Defence Ministers (FAC Defence)
16.11.2021
The situation at the EU's external borders with Belarus and EU training missions were the main topics of the Foreign Affairs Council in Defence format. Poland was represented by Andrzej Sadoś, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the EU.
At the beginning of the meeting, Poland presented information on the events on the Polish-Belarusian border, highlighting the actions of the Belarusian regime aimed at escalating the crisis. Poland received full support and expressions of solidarity from all Member States and representatives of EU institutions.
The working session was devoted to EU military training missions. The ministers referred to the activities of the current missions, as well as to ways of improving them. In addition, Poland, like some of the countries in our region, advocated the establishment of a military advisory mission for defence sector reform in Ukraine.
The ministers, as part of a working lunch, also met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The meeting allowed for an exchange of views on EU-NATO cooperation, particularly in the following areas: new technologies, climate change, resilience and space, as well as in the context of work on a new EU-NATO declaration, the Strategic Compass and NATO's new Strategic Concept.
